How does our staff team work?
Working at Camp Ghormley is not only a job – it is a ministry. Our staff team must first be unified in Christ, as one body (1 Corinthians 12:12-31, Ephesians 4:1-8) that is working together. This is necessary to not only preach the Gospel, but to live it and exemplify it to our guests and campers.
Every position at Camp Ghormley is unique and necessary for the function of camp, each with it’s own set of responsibilities. Because our team is made up of humans, and life can get in the way of our common goal, each staff member must also have an ability to be flexible and help in many different areas.
Who and when are we hiring for Summer Camp?
We are hiring individuals that agree with our Statement of Faith, are willing to learn and be discipled (and disciple others), and can commit to work an eight week summer season. Hiring will begin February, 2025, and we hope to fill all summer staff positions by the end of April and will continue to hire until all positions are filled.
Our first week starts with staff training, beginning on June 10, 2025 (Leadership Staff Training begins earlier), and the summer ends on August 3, 2025. Opportunities to stay at camp and continue to serve (and be paid) may be available through Labor Day weekend in September.
Note: If a position below does not have a job description linked, the position may have already been filled. You can double check on our Job Openings page to see all open positions.
Leadership Positions
- Program Lead
- Adventure Camp Lead
- Female Staff Counselor
- Male Staff Counselor
- Summer Camp Registrar
Leadership roles are in charge of developing, planning, and coordinating programs related to their departments. The job of leadership staff is to make sure their department of camp is running effectively and efficiently. Additionally, leadership staff make sure the counselors and program staff are supported in their roles.
Camp Counselors
Counselors typically counsel for 2-3 weeks straight, then are given a week break from counseling. During that break, counselors will work as program staff (behind the scenes: i.e., running games, facilitating activities, dishes, etc). The main job as a counselor is to be present with campers throughout the entire week. It is through the counselors that the Gospel is spoken and exemplified the greatest!
Program Staff
Program staff are the heartbeat of the summer; they make sure everything is flowing together well! Program staff oversee various responsibilities, either by specializing in one area or several. For a detailed overview of responsibilities, please read the job descriptions (coming soon!).
