We at Ghormley do not want money to be the reason a child cannot attend summer camp! Through our scholarship program, we partner with parents to help their children attend camp through partial scholarships (usually around 30% of the camp fee) based on camp session, need, and availability.
To apply, fill out the Scholarship Application online while registering your child for camp. If you can’t find the Scholarship application, look in the Forms section of your camper’s online account. If you do not already have an online account for our registration system, you will need to create a login. You will be asked a series of questions to create the account, and you will begin the registration process for your camper. (If you already have an online account, use your current login information to select a camp session for your camper). Filling out the registration materials online involves no commitment in coming to camp! This is simply a way to get the materials ready if your camper receives a scholarship. You do not need to pay anything to apply for a scholarship. After you have filled out the registration forms, you will be directed back to your “dashboard.” In the Forms section, you will see all summer forms listed. The scholarship application will be at the bottom of the list. Click on the form to fill it out.
<!–OR, fill out the Scholarship Form and return it by mail, fax, or email. Please return it with a Registration Form as well. No payment is required to be considered for a scholarship.–>
You can expect to hear the status of your scholarship application within two weeks of application. If you are accepted for a scholarship, you will need to pay a $25 deposit to secure your camper’s place in the chosen session. The scholarship will be applied to your camper’s account after the deposit has been paid.
If you still need assistance with the remainder of the camp fee, we offer some suggestions for ways to raise that money:
- Payment plan: pay the remaining balance off in up to four months (one payment each month).
- Invite friends! You will receive $25 toward your camp fee for every friend who registers as a first-time camper.
- Ask your church – a lot of churches offer scholarships.
- Ask people in your child’s life (friends, relatives, etc.) who may want to help your child get to camp.
Have your child be a part of the process, if they are old enough. Encourage them in fundraising ideas, as this gives them a sense of ownership in raising money for camp.
If after trying the above suggestions the remaining camp fee is still not covered, families that have received scholarships are encouraged to call the camp office at 509-672-4311 at least two weeks before the camp session begins. We will reassess the scholarship amount based on need and availability.
Please note that scholarship money will only be applied to the camp fee, not add-ons such as spending money. While we do not police money placed on camper Sundeck (camp store) accounts, we would prefer that families responsibly use their funds to pay for their camp fee rather than asking for a scholarship and then applying large quantities of funds to their child’s personal spending money.
